Capturing your sweetest and saltiest moments.
To help you prepare for your session we’ve put together a list of some of the most common worries and questions we get. The main point is that you have nothing to worry about-we have everything under control. All you need to do is show up! That being said, here are some of the things you might be thinking about while waiting for your session:
My life is the most boring life in the world.
Firstly, we highly doubt this is true. Even if you really feel like that, that is actually perfect. The entire purpose of a documentary session like this is to be able to see the magic of the most mundane and boring moments. Because what you now consider casual, boring, and uninteresting, you will definitely miss later and you will wish you could relieve these moments. Your life is unique and having somebody capture it with the camera can actually make you realize how many little things during the average day you simply don’t pay attention to. So what are some of the things that are “boring” but most of us do and can ensure amazing photos? Here are a few examples: meal preparation/cooking, book reading, grocery shopping, doing homework, watching a movie, playing games, reading a book, going to dance lesson, eating a meal together, going for a walk, doing arts and crafts, and the list goes on!
My house/life is a mess!
Whether you think like this in a literal or metaphorical way – it is absolutely ok! Lives are not perfect so why would we pretend like they are? We are not fooling anybody. You live in your house – it is not a hotel! Kids are messy. Life is messy. It’s called a character and none of us can pretend to keep the house clean while kids live in it. So let us be relaxed about it. When you look back at this time you will look at the mess and smile. Because you know that the mess was created by playing, exploring, experimenting, and growing. Nobody is going to be judging you for it – these pictures are for you and your loved ones! They are supposed to be real and not made up scenarios like we live in a Truman Show.
I have nothing nice to wear.
And you don’t need to. I am personally tired of seeing all people wear exactly same clothes in their family pictures like every other family. Clothes that normally they wouldn’t wear and that make them look like copies of someone else. Just be yourself. Show your kids that it’s ok to be themselves! That being yourself is picture-worthy. You don’t have to pretend to be someone you are not. Your family loves you for who you are so just wear what you normally wear – your personality is the greatest outfit you can wear!
What if my kids are in the bad mood and don’t want to cooperate?
Our name is Sugar AND Salt. Not just sugar. Life is full of sweet AND salty moments. We all have bad moments and we think that all of our emotions make us humans therefore they are all worthy of documenting and remembering. Some of my most cherished photos of my own wife and daughter are from the time when she was little and we felt helpless. Our teary eyes and tired faces remind us of the hardships and tough moments we survived and make us feel proud now when looking back at them.
Can you pose us if you are not getting good enough pictures? We wouldn’t mind.
Yes I could, but I won’t! Imperfection is perfection. We are all natural models but billions of commercials and posed/edited pictures have slowly been altering our imagination of how the real world looks like. You just have to trust us that we know what we are doing. I could pose you but then these would be my poses – it wouldn’t be your natural expressions of yourselves. I have done this thousands of times at this point and I am confident that we will get even more amazing photos of your day than we can handle!
